Find Your K₂Cr₂O₇ Fe Factor (Standardization)

Titrate a known weight of pure iron (or certified standard) with your dichromate solution. Enter the values below to find your actual factor in mg Fe/mL.

Pure iron or standard weight in mg
Titre volume from standardization
Your K₂Cr₂O₇ Fe Factor:
— mg Fe/mL
Ready
► Factor = —
► Formula: Factor (mg Fe/mL) = Weight of pure Fe (mg) ÷ Volume of dichromate (mL)
Standardization procedure: Dissolve a known weight of pure iron (or certified standard) in acid, reduce to Fe²⁺, and titrate with your K₂Cr₂O₇ solution using diphenylamine indicator. The factor tells you how many mg of Fe react with 1 mL of your dichromate solution.

Safety Alert – HCl / HNO₃ / K₂Cr₂O₇
  • Wear PPE: goggles, gloves, lab coat, closed shoes.
  • Use fume hood – acid vapours and dichromate dust are toxic.
  • K₂Cr₂O₇ is carcinogenic & oxidizer – avoid inhalation/contact.
  • Dispose hazardous waste in designated containers.
